August 2, 2005: Plush puppy toys and sheepswool
pieces have been introduced into the whelping box. We will be adding
different "things" into the whelping box every couple of days. All in an
effort to expose the puppies to different textures, sounds and shapes.
Today is day 9, all puppies have doubled their birth weight. Litters
typically double their birth weight between 7 and 10 days. The Snicker
litter is right on track! At times each of the puppies think they can
walk on all 4s, rather than crawl. Mr. Yellow and Miss Pink were trying
that in the pictures above. Of course, they just stumble forward, but
that does not stop them from trying again. No eyes open yet, that should
happen in the next few days.
August 4, 2005: Puppy eyes are starting to open! Mr.
Purple, Mr. Green, Mr. Light Blue and the Starman's eyes all opened this
evening. No new pictures have been posted today, but check back
tomorrow. I've taken quite a few pictures, I just did not have time
to prepare them for the web.
All the photos below were taken on Thursday, August 4th.

August 6, 2005: All eyes are open! The new "things"
in the whelping box today are a Snuggle Safe disk and an 2"x2" piece of wood.
Snuggle Safe disks are heated in the Microwave, and hold the heat for a number
of hours. We used 2 Snuggle Safes covered with towels in the bottom of
the cooler when we needed the puppies out of the whelping box for cleaning.
They've outgrown the cooler, we now use a plastic storage bin on cleaning day
(or should I say cleaning hour). The Snuggle Safe is hard slippery
plastic, quite a contrast from the fleece and towels they are used to walking
on. Tomorrow we'll add a 2"x4" so they can practice their balance beam
routines.
Is Mr. Purple yawning or practicing his BARK?!?
