It's Puppy Time!

This past week was a beautiful Minnesota summer week, temperatures in the upper 70’s low 80s, blue sky, no rain!  Week 5 the puppies finally spent some time outdoors.  Their first experience was spending a few minutes in an x-pen on the sidewalk.  They did not like the texture of the sidewalk and they were unsure about all the sounds of the outdoors, the wind, traffic, airplanes, etc.  Their first trip outdoors was short.  The next day we moved the x-pen to the grass.  This they liked better, but were still unsure of all the sounds.  Each day they became more and more comfortable with outside.  Now they fear nothing, they love to run and chase each other and explore beyond the x-pen.  When we take them outside, they run down the sidewalk to the grass or maybe cut across the landscape rocks, they just want to get to the grass to begin playtime.  They run, they sit, they lay down in the cool grass and they roll on their backs, these puppies love spending time outdoors!

OK, where are we going???

We even had a lunch outdoors, they called it a picnic.
But it was very warm, they put a silver mesh roof
on our x-pen, it's tough being a black dog in
the summer sun.

WOW!!!  Mom joined us at the end our of picnic
to help clean our plates

These puppies continue to grow physically and we see more of their personalities every day.  When awake and not eating, the puppies are constantly playing, playing with toys or playing with each other.  They will chase each other, and wrestle with each other, biting ears, necks, legs, tails or whatever body part they can catch.  Nobody is picking on each other, they all take turns being the “aggressor”.  In fact many times 2 puppies will be wrestling and their playing might take them near a third sleeping pup.  Before you know it, the first two decide to join forces and wrestle with the third.  Not exactly the wake up call I’d choose!  Of course, they do still spend plenty of time sleeping, and continue to sleep in the most unusual positions.

Playing makes me tired!

Snicker continues to let the puppies nurse, but at times they are pretty rough on her
